Quite often we get E-mails and telephone calls asking us how long it should take for transfers between London's Airports. This is the hardest question to answer we get asked, firstly you have to understand London's Geography, London unlike many U.S.A cities was here long before the Motor vehicle ever was, so the streets are not designed for fast traffic flow, HOWEVER the good news is that NONE of London's 4 major airports (Heathrow LHR Gatwick LGW Stansted STN Luton LTN )are actually in what we "Londoners" Call London
They are all outside, and they are all linked by an Orbital Motorway (Freeway) which feeds onto the Motorways going to the airports However as this Motorway completely encircles London it means that it gets used by traffic way above the numbers it was designed for, and during the rush hours it is affectionately known as Europe's Largest Car Park In our experience from the time you come out into the main arrivals hall at any of these airports, (as a rule-of-thumb, it takes between 45-60 minutes from landing until you arrive at this point) Below are the AVERAGE journey times between the airports, these journeys are based on our Inter-airport transfers during the past year, they are an AVERAGE and should not be taken as definitive, but if you are planning flights from these airports, or you have connections to make, these are the time scales which we suggest you use. There many factors outside of our control which you have to take into account, adverse weather such as Snow Rain or Fog can add 60 Minutes to these times, things such as traffic accidents and construction can also add more time to these journeys If you are transferring between airports during weekdays between 07:30-09:00 & 16:30-18:00 we will NOT undertake any transfers that have 3 or less hours between the flight landing at one airport, and the departing flight at another airport The reason for this is quite simple, you have to be at the depature airport normally 2 hours before your flight departs, and it takes just under an hour for you to clear customs and immigration at your arrival airport, this adds up to almost 3 hours, leaving you with no journey time between the airports. We hate turning customers away, but there are times when we just have to, we KNOW we just wont make this connection, so why even kid you?. At this point we feel we need to warn you about a couple of things, if you have been here before, dont fall into the trap of thinking "last time I came through in 15 mins, so i will do it again this time", we are sorry, but you may come into the airports several times a year, BUT we go to them every day 24/7 Lots of times per day, we really do know what we are talking about with these times. We also feel we ought to warn you about some of our competitors sharp practices, time and time again we refuse to carry passengers because their connection time in our opinion is too short, and so they go and contact another company, who will say "dont worry you will make it", and time and time again we get emails from these passengers stating that they should have taken our advice because they didnt make their connection. We want your business, but we dont want to decieve you in anyway, we depend a lot on "word-of-mouth" recommendations for our service, and if we fail to make your connection, that isnt going to do our reputation any good at all is it? You also have to remember that we are a DEDICATED AIRPORT TRANSFER COMPANY this is all we do, lots of our competitors are NOT, they are local cab companies that have suddenly realised that there is money to be made in Airport Transfers, and they know they will get money from you even if you dont make your connection, whats the point in that?, well its an attitude problem with them, they think "oh well they wont use us again, but someone will" its pure shortsightedness on their parts, and worse than that, it tarnishes everyone with the same brush
We also get the odd E-mail telling us that they like our site but its a bit "preachy", well maybe we are, but we want you to understand that we know our market, we know what customers expect, and we like to think we tell it as it is, we are NOT saints, we are not perfect, but with a little foresight and planning on your part and ours, we can get it right 99.9% of the time anyway this is our advice on Inter-airport transfers in LondonWeekdays 07:30-19:00 ALLOW AT LEAST 4 hours All other times Weekends and Public Holidays ALLOW at least 3 hours
